"Identify as" as intrasitive[edit]

I'm changing it to reflexive. The definition itself uses a reflexive verb ("to describe oneself as a member of a group"). That the reflexive pronoun is customarily deleted does not mean that "identify" in this usage is intransitive. "I identify myself as an evolutionist" is perfectly grammatical -- it wouldn't be if the such usage were intransitive. In fact, in the following languages,

German: ich identifiziere mich als Spanish: me identifico como French: je m'identifie comme Italian: mi identifico come Portuguese: eu me identifico como

omitting the reflexive is umgrammatical. 185.205.225.6 12:45, 17 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
