@TagaSanPedroAko Can I ask where you got the obsolete spelling you put here "ingit"? I'm asking because in Vocabulario de la lengua tagala, the spelling for this word is "inguit", not "ingit". Thanks. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 13:27, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Mar vin kaiser: I found "Ingit" in the 1860 edition, but yes "inguit" is the correct Spanish-based spelling. What edition of the Vocabulario did you look up? 1835 or 1860? 1860 edition appears to use both "gue/ge" and "gui/gi", "ge/gi" used on the Tagalog-Spanish and "gue/gui" on Spanish-Tagalog. - @TagaSanPedroAko: I checked the 1860 edition. What page did you find "ingit"? I found that "ingit" refers to a "squeaking sound" and "inguit" refers to "envy". --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 11:12, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- @TagaSanPedroAko: Are you sure you didn't just read it wrong? If you look at p. 158 of the 1860 edition, it does have "ingit" but it's referring to crying of a child, which is ingit in the modern spelling. - @Mar vin kaiser Well, I can recall scanning through the 1860 Vocabulario, and seeing the headword "INGIT" used for both. Also don't forget the G plus tilde thing, but I can say 1860 Vocabulario used both GUE/GE and GUI/GI spellings, on the Tagalog-Spanish and Spanish-Tagalog respectively.
