Etymology

The etymology states "First attested around 1910 (as joy-stick) as the control stick on an airplane." But it appears the first attestation in the OED is for the "baseball bat" sense. Either way, the first attestations for the senses "baseball bat", "cigarette" and "control stick" are all so close together, I am not sure on what basis we can confidently say which one came first?
