I'd initially forgotten about both those words. Honestly, patchwork is pretty much what this is, in both the literal and the figurative sense (though the Dutch term refers specifically to a blanket in the literal sense). A quilt, I feel, is something more consistent and technically uniform than a patchwork or lappendeken, though it's a decent approximation for the literal sense. — Kleio (t · c) 16:42, 23 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
