what is logic as art?

Definitions[edit]

No. Definition Note
1. A method of human thought that involves thinking in a linear, step-by-step manner about how a problem can be solved. Logic is the basis of many principles including the scientific method. The current first one. I striked the part that is a statement, not a definition.
2. The study of the principles and criteria of valid inference and demonstration. From WP.

Created as a basis for discussion and finetuning.

Concerning 1., I did not know that logic was a sequential method of problem solving, which is how I understand the definition. The definition 2. seems fine with me; the key words are inference--a production of statements from statements--and demonstration AKA proof, which, in case of mathematical proof, relies on deductive inference. --Daniel Polansky 12:28, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here’s a citation for pejorative use[edit]

I was surprised to see this word in Category:English pejoratives. For what it’s worth, I did some quick research and found a web page, apparently a book in text-file form, documenting that the word “logic” has indeed often had pejorative connotations among some historians: [1]. --Ginkgo100 (talk) 21:37, 20 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
