The original sense for this entry, created by WF. I can find lots of references to wasps by this name- but not spider wasps. Spider wasps dig burrows and place paralyzed spiders in them, laying eggs so the larvae can feed on the spiders. All the references to wasps (as opposed to ants) I can find seem to mention above-ground nests and/or prey other than spiders. Chuck Entz (talk) 04:33, 12 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
