Mardy. Merde or angry workers.

[edit]

Mardy to Maerdy to active south wales mine workers I have been told that Mardy is an anglicised version of Maerdy (a south Wales village) which was a hot spot of radical left wing miners. To some extent this could explain the word's spread to the midlands and the north of England as impoverished and workless Welsh people migrated in search of work But is this correct? I have heard and use Mardy synonymously with bolshy which supports that but ... Other discussions go for the merde derivation but how widespread was French amongst working people in the early 20th century and earlier.? Begadfly (talk) 21:31, 20 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
