Possible derived terms, from Chambers 1908[edit]

For legal terms, we have material fact and genuine issue of material fact, but not these (might be SoP though):

  • immaterial issue, an issue which is not decisive of any part of the litigation, as opposed to a material issue, one which necessarily involves some part of the rights in controversy.

Then there are these:

  • join issue, take issue*: of the two parties taking up the affirmative and the negative on the point in debate.

I note that "join issue" appears at issue#Verb but is not linked to an entry; we also have take issue as a redirect but it is not the same sense. Equinox 20:22, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
