The first sense, a synonym of mecha, is also common in video games. Note that in Robin Wasserman’s Cold Awakening trilogy, such as the SF novel Skinned, “mechs” are humans who are deceased in the flesh but whose mind has been downloaded into a mechanical body. I don’t know if this sense is unique to this author.  --Lambiam 11:07, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
