Etymology[edit]

Some people on the Web seem to think this is a sexist term (i.e. women should do the cleaning), but is it not a reference to the mop-like pole/sceptre thing that some queens on cards are depicted as holding? Equinox 06:21, 16 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

In the English deck, the queen of spades is the only one who holds a scepter. (The other queens hold flowers.) Still, it seems plausible that it's a combination of that and the gender stereotype. I'm not finding any definitive sources, however. 70.172.194.25 06:19, 12 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
