I'm really unsure as to where a citation was found stating that muratus meant purple; while I could see it being a derivative of murex, there was no such meaning given by my unabridged Latin dictionary. Medellia 18:16, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

It just occured to me that the Spanish is morado, which admittedly sounds like this vague idea of a purple "muratus." I will consult a Spanish etymological dictionary. Perhaps it is Late Latin? Vulgar? Something to do with mustum? (Okay, that's a ridiculous jump, but I'm musing in text.) My apologies for acting so hastily. (In my own defense, the definition I gave for mūrātus is not at all incorrect.) Medellia 20:34, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
