Meaning in computing[edit]
It rather means "written specifically for a particular environment", for example a native Linux application. 89.219.13.218 15:30, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
killer cats?[edit]
Australia is well known for its dangerous wildlife, and it seems that pets are right up there too. This story tells us that
- Feral cats across Australia are estimated to kill two billion native mammals, marsupials, reptiles, frogs and birds yearly.
- Pet cats that roam and hunt kill an additional 390 million natives every year.
Can native be used as a noun meaning "native species", or does this use only work because the context was set up by the preceding sentence? If this sense exists, I would like to add it, because otherwise a narrow reading of the sentence would either tell us that pet cats in Australia kill 390,000,000 humans every year, or 390,000,000 oysters. —Soap— 14:24, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
