Um, where is that?! I've lived in NY, IL, CA, FL, UT and never heard that. Is it specific to a particular region? --Connel MacKenzie 03:33, 16 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I don't know of Snoop Dogg started it, but he's certainly famous for it. Here is a representative account. Hmm . . . interesting format they've got there -dmh 04:23, 16 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I *knew* there was a reason I hated rap music.  :-) Thanks. But would'nt that make this just a {{protologism}}? Whereas nigga has been around a very long time, nizzle just seems bogus to me. --Connel MacKenzie 05:56, 16 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I've defined this as a synonym for the as-yet-nonexistent nigga. Note that this is also what the Rap Dictionary has. Both variants represent the non-pejorative usage within contepmorary urban culture, and not the pejorative use by racists. Someone shouting nizzle as an epithet would more likely provoke derisive laughter than offense. -dmh 04:37, 16 Jan 2005 (UTC)

nigger discussion

[edit]

The word is not just used in elitistic and racist circles, but also (as the author(s) are certainly aware of, considering the context) between AAs themselves. Further, in this context, it is rarely offensive. The discussion is therefore misleading.

Generally, it is also a good idea to bear in mind that "offensive is, as offensive does": It is not the words themselves, but the speaker and his intents (respectively the hearer's perception of his intents) that matter---something that is usually never considered in US PC-hysteria. 188.100.206.102 06:08, 9 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

"not especially harmful, as their root word is" Really? It's "especially harmful"? Its use by bigots is usually offensive, demeaning even, but I've never heard of a single person actually being injured by the word, or by any other word. Maybe it's time people stopped treating the word "nigger" like it's got magical power. Bullets and knives cause harm whether seen or unseen, but no harm can possibly come from an unheard word.
