Sense: "To waste, to fritter away". This sense isn't supported by the (older) OED or by Websters'. Each of those dictionaries has but a single sense for piffle as a verb. --EncycloPetey 03:45, 2 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Surely this is an RFV issue. Mglovesfun (talk) 16:29, 2 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
The sense was added with the comment "another sense (from OED)", but I find it doesn't appear in the OED. It's a simple check. Either this sense appears in the OED (as claimed), or else it doesn't. The edition of the OED I have does not have this definition. --EncycloPetey 03:55, 4 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • This OED entry was revised in March. Although it's only a single sense, it ends: "Also: to waste, to fritter away." And some of the citations support the def, eg "2000 Oregonian (Nexis) 1 Sept. (Arts & Entertainment section) 22 Friedkin..piffled away one of the 1970s' biggest careers with the likes of ‘Cruising’ and ‘Jade’." Ƿidsiþ 10:54, 4 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
