Obsolete?[edit]
Is the word really "obsolete"? There seems to be hundreds of Google hits where the word is used, and if I'm not mistaken, I think I even heard it on HBO's Sopranos. Wakuran 18:47, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- I grew up in rural Ireland in the 1980s and the term was commonly used in the provinces of Leinster and Connacht. We most often came across ants while harvesting turf on the bog (peatland). These ants were a reddish-brown colour so I used to think that "pismire" referred to a similar species related to ants. I've lived away since then and I don't know how common the word is now. --Antoin (talk) 10:56, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
