- @FierakuiVërtet Dashi's etymology cannot be said to be entirely incorrect, as the word does seem to come from Italian spranga or whatever s-less dialectal variant (although the unrelated branca is supposedly also found as meaning "set of chains for galley slaves assigned to one oar", which leads Turkologists to link to this :/ I'm not sure about this, would need proper input from other "etymologicians" here). However, the Italian word does not mean "fetters", and for this reason Dashi herself admits Turkish mediation. However in Rossi's old dictionary we find a meaning "sbarra", original of the Italian etymon, which I couldn't find in Turkish dictionaries. This may be a situation similar to that of Wiktionary:Etymology scriptorium/2023/August#vapor. I tried to retouch the ety to be more permissive, however it might need to be investigated further on the Turkish side.
