The Romanian word is definitely Slavic, rather than from Latin praea (before). Besides the fact that its meaning has nothing to do with the Latin word, the related suffix prea- which has similar cognates in the Slavic languages, where it has the meaning of over-, confirms the former ethymology. What you feel about a word has nothing to do with serious linguistics. Scholars have discussed this term for ages and there are just as many promoting one origin, as there are promoting the other.
