trunc[edit]

Hello, in etymology section, it is written:

From the Old Norse word raptr, originally meaning 'beam' or 'rafter'. Cognate with rafter, Danish raft (“long trunc”), Old Norse ráfr (“roof”).

Why exactly "5. (slang, informal) A large collection of people or things taken indiscriminately." belongs to etymology 1 and is not derived from etymology 2 => "A large (but unspecified) number, a lot." ?
