Ionic compound[edit]
I don't get the point of the first sense
- "An ionic compound composed of an alkalai [sic] metal atom and a halogen atom."
All these compounds can also be formed in an acid+base reaction. Anyone with an explanation as to why these are considered different senses? I removed it, (and updated the numbers of the translation-references) but if there really is some detail of the removed sense (above) which is not included in the present first sense, I'm all ears... \Mike 11:24, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

missing figurative verb sense[edit]
We're missing a verb sense which alludes to salting earth to ensure nothing grows, but which is figurative. For example, on RFDO I just suggested salting a page: making it a redirect rather than deleting it, because it could easily be recreated if it were merely deleted, but not if it were made a redirect and protected. - -sche (discuss) 02:51, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Salting a memo[edit]
Various slang dictionaries give the phrase "salt a memo", but it's hard to find actual usage. e.g. (Shafritz 2018) "One way to trace leaks is to salt a memo: Give ever so slightly altered versions of the same memo to members of a group and see whose version is leaked."
