scandal-water[edit]

John Camden Hotten's Slang Dictionary (1873) has scandal-water, meaning tea ("from old maids' tea-parties being generally a focus for scandal", i.e. gossip). I can't find any uses in Google Books. Equinox 18:27, 6 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
