Well I'll be! I had always thought that "brethren and sistren" was a joke, which it may well be, but to my surprise the OED substantiates sistren as one of several common plurals of sister in Middle English; however "in general literary use these were finally discarded about 1550" and replaced by the modern sisters.

I'm not sure what Wiktionary policy is about words which never really made it into Modern English, but at least this one is not a prank entry as I at first assumed. Pzriddle 23:27, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
