Missing verb sense in acting?[edit]

Green's Newspeak (1984) has a verb sense of an actor performing a "take", or exaggerated physical reaction. This is all I could find in Google Books:

  • 2007, Frank Cullen, ‎Florence Hackman, ‎Donald McNeilly, Vaudeville old & new (page 1048)
Akin to skulling or mugging, a take covers a variety of reactions by a comedian or a foil—surprise, fright, anger or disbelief—or perhaps it signals a more considered response, such as bemusement, skepticism or contempt.
