- I think it is often a code for "dating" or "sex life" depending on the marital status and age of the referent. It is not an "act". DCDuring TALK 19:48, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
- I have cited a sense that is "dating/mating". Sense 1 says that it is an activity engaged in for "pleasure". There seems to be a lot of usage that implies it is undertaken for "mental health" apparently whether of not it gives pleasure. - They are certainly included in a broad reading of sense 1. What seemed distinctive is the assumption by the speakers/writers that the only important part of a social life had to do with dating/mating. There are many uses where social life seems to include dating and some where it includes all aspects of a social life broadly defined except dating. If sense 1 were more satisfactory (ie, not being so vague, not getting into motivation), maybe the contributor of sense 2 and I wouldn't have bothered. DCDuring TALK 20:56, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
