There are spiroalkanes in chemical nomenclature or more general - spirocompounds. They have a tetravalent carbon atom connected to two carbo- or heterocyclic rings. I do not know more about etymology of spiro prefix in chemical nomenclature. 2A01:1D8:0:0:0:0:0:30 09:11, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
