Etymology og spud (potato)

Recently I've read that the word spud with the sense potato is basically an acronym of "Society for Prevention of Unhealthy Diet" S.P.U.D. - I don't know whether this is true or not, but if so this should be mentioned in the etymology section.--91.61.119.103 23:06, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Affectionate term

I saw a picture of a rat titled "my little spud". Would this be a continuation of sense 4? The rat is not particularly potato-looking apart from being stoutish.--Simplificationalizer (talk) 01:03, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
