idiomaticity[edit]

What makes strictly speaking worth of an entry? Does its idiomaticity result from the fixed order of its words? --Backinstadiums (talk) 16:38, 8 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

When I say "strictly speaking" I am not really thinking strictness or about speaking (I might be writing). It's just a fixed phrase, a sort of noise that you learn. Synonyms like "rigorously speaking" are barely used in comparison. Equinox 11:29, 12 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Equinox: It's not because of any idiomaticity of speaking, so also to speak strictly (cf. to be honest) ? https://oed.com/oed2/00239334 --Backinstadiums (talk) 09:12, 27 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
