The Japanese and Korean translations seem to be the same as the Chinese - surely this is a mistake? — Paul G 10:06, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I don't speak a word of Korean, but I do know that the language contains both hanja (borrowed Chinese characters) and hangul (the Korean writing script). Both are used in the translation, so I wouldn't worry. Tooironic 23:21, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Obama is Luo, not Swahili. It is a completely different family of languages. —Stephen 17:29, 6 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

1st sense[edit]

I don't believe the first sense is obsolete, as in this sense Dutch and German surnames still fit this definition and are called surnames.

I added a list[edit]

of the most common surnames in the US as of 2010. Okay? Solomonfromfinland (talk) 06:15, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

To clarify: Wiktionary articles on specific surnames hav a "statistics" part, on how many Americans hav said surname; so i figured that this article might as well hav a "statistics" part, on the most common surnames in the US.--Solomonfromfinland (talk) 06:17, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Solomonfromfinland Please bring this up in the Beer Parlour. There have been discussions on whether the Statistics sections for specific surnames belong so I'm not sure it makes sense to add this sort of encyclopedic info to a dictionay entry. Benwing2 (talk) 08:32, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
"discussions on whether the Statistics sections for specific surnames belong". Where can i find those discussions? Solomonfromfinland (talk) 13:14, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Another thing: where do i find the Beer Parlour (or does Wiktionary use the more compact spelling "Parlor"?)? Solomonfromfinland (talk) 13:18, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Go to WT:Beer parlour and click on the + sign at the top to start a new discussion. The previous discussions have been in the Beer parlour I think. Benwing2 (talk) 10:34, 10 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
