@Metaknowledge I disagree with your revert.

(1) The RAE does not say the Spanish term is from this Quechua word, it simply says "from Quechua".

(2) The citations clearly show that the Spanish term originally had the meaning of a particular mineral, only developing the sense of altitude sickness at least half a century later. This Quechua term has no such mineralogical meaning.

I think it is extremely dubious to say that Spanish soroche is derived from suruqch'i. There could have been an earlier Quechua term that the Spanish is derived from, but it was not this particular term. DTLHS (talk) 13:35, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

I don't know much at all about this, but maybe we should just list the hypotheses here at soroche. Regardless, what you did with the etymology section seemed inappropriate to me; it's almost certainly either derived from Quechua or it's unrelated. —Μετάknowledge^{discuss/deeds} 18:20, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
