Isn't that elision?
Dictionary.com for example has the meaning "(in verse) the omission of a vowel at the end of one word when the next word begins with a vowel, as th'orient." for elision which is similar to "The suppression of a vowel at the end of word when it is followed by another word beginning with a vowel." here.
But there could be a general problem that elision, contraction, synaeresis, synaloepha, synizesis are somewhat vague terms and have been used in various senses. -80.133.117.217 08:18, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
