What's the plural of syntax? Can't seem to find a reliable source. Syntaces (like matrices) or syntaxen (like oxen) or syntaxes (like axes)? Firefox spell checker prefers the third, but I think the first is the coolest and the second is the lamest.

Syntaxes. --Connel MacKenzie 15:25, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So why do we allow syntices? It seems to appear only as a joke in blogs. Is the plural of tax, tices? Is the plural of fax, fices? If you want a joke plural, I like syntaxen best, but Connel MacKenzie is correct, of course. Dbfirs 18:55, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
... (later) ... I decided to remove the joke plural syntices which was introduced by anon 163.181.251.10 more than a year ago. I have relegated this joke form to a usage note. I trust that this meets with approval, but I will be happy to revert my removal if anyone can find serious usage. Dbfirs 19:06, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
