tonë/tona (tanë/tana) | të tonë/të tona (të tanë/të tana)[edit]

The words "TONË" (or "TANË"), "TË TONË" (or "TË TANË") are a typical gheg (north dialect) "thing". Quite a Malsor thing (Malsor = Highlander). Albanian "TË TONË" (or "të tanë") would be something like "OF ALL" | "ALL OF" in english, but >masculine, or neutral. Therefore ~ "OF ALL (MEN)" (or "ALL OF (MEN))". "TË TON[A]" (or "të tan[a]") would be something like a >feminine "OF ALL" (or "ALL OF"). Therefore ~ "OF ALL WOMEN" (or "ALL OF WOMEN"). It has this specific meaning when it stand alone and isn't influenced by verbs, nouns, etc.

In albanian you have "ATA" ("THEY", m.) and "ATO" ("THEY" f.), 3rd person plural. Which would be in german "SIE". But german "SIE": could mean an entire male group, or an entire female group - or both, mixed. Same case with english "THEY". Example: [THEY] went... (english). [SIE] gingen... (german). [ATA] shkuan... ("ata" > m. or. n., albanian). [ATO] shkuan... ("ato" > f., albanian).

[Të tonë] shkua[n]... ("[All of them*] went..."). [Të tonë] shkua[m]... ("[All of us*] went..."). [Të tona] shkua[n]... ("All of them**] went..."). [Të tona] shkua[m]... ("All of us**] went..."). (* = referring to a male group, or both female/male) (** = referring to an entire female group)

Like I mentioned before, in the beginning ... it's more like a "Northern-thing". Tosks (south dialect) prefer the words "GJITHË" (/'ɟʑiθ(ə)/) or "TË GJITHË" (/tə ɟʑiθ(ə)/). (english: whole, entireall, all of, all the, the whole, the entire)

"GJITHË" = "TONË" = "ALL" (m.|n.). "GJITHA" = "TONA"/"TANA" = "ALL" (f.). "të gjithë" = "të tonë"/"të tanë" = "of all" (m.|n.). "të gjitha" = "të tona"/"të tana" = "of all" (f.).

"TONË / TONA"; can also have the meaning "OUR". Example: "[OUR] sisters." = "Motrat [TONA]." "[OUR] brothers." = "Vëllezërit [TONË]."

It really depends on WHAT you're trying to say and HOW you use it. But the root is [TONË]("OUR", pronoun). Also: [TË] means "OF" (preposition), "YOU/THOU" (pronoun). [TE] = "TO"/"AT"/"INTO" (preposition). It's "t[Ë] tonë", not "t[E] tonë" (albanian [Ë] = IPA: Ə]).

Sorry for the long post. But I hope I could help (somehow). LAGTON (talk) 05:25, 17 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
