Etymology of Dutch term[edit]

Do we know for sure that it comes from Malay? It could just have easily been a direct borrowing from Hokkien, given that the Dutch were already in Taiwan and trading with southern Fujian long before they colonised Melaka. The dog2 (talk) 20:19, 15 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
