This is wrong.[edit]

Shorter fibres were discarded, because they're scratchy when you make linen from them. But they are EXTREMELY STRONG, which is where linen duck came from, tow. It was commonly used for poor peoples underwear because it was disposable to a degree, and a rubbish material only used for things like tow ropes. It's not a softer silkier strand as claimed, which is why it was considered a very low grade material.
