/tɹɔθ/[edit]

The pronunciation /tɹɔθ/ ~ /tɹɑθ/ invalid IPA characters (//) (i.e. to rhyme with moth) is included by:

  • Kenyon and Knott
  • the Random House Dictionary [1]
  • the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary [2]
  • Webster's Third New International Dictionary

I have no idea how widespread this pronunciation still is, but I trust these dictionaries to know what they're talking about. —Angr 20:35, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Etymology[edit]

From the root of Old Cornish TROG in TROGTENNA (drawer) < TROG + TENNA (to draw). From the same root is possibly Anglo-Saxon TREG (tray). Andrew H. Gray 18:11, 4 September 2023 (UTC) Andrew H. Gray 18:11, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

IPA[edit]

Is it really a t-sound there? (the English word). I never heard no clear t-sound there when Americans say this word. Tollef Salemann (talk) 13:56, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
