What about vanilla kernel, which is a linux kernel from kernel.org ? — This unsigned comment was added by Guzenkov (talkcontribs) at 09:58, 8 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

The example sentence about New Coke is rather contentious! How about something more neutral? 86.131.102.228 19:02, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Would it be appropriate to add a definition to Vanilla for it's metaphorical meaning of "plain" or "simple"? I'm not up to date on how to edit Wiktionary entries, but I'd like to throw that out there for anyone who might.

It's already there. See the adjective section. — Paul G 14:31, 6 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Scandinavian influence?[edit]

Is there any possibility that Scandinavian might have influenced or helped the adjectival sense, even though it most likely is a coïncidence? In Scandinavian, vanlig/-leg means 'common'; 'normal'; 'regular'; 'usual'. I would not bet on this to be the case, but I find it interesting. Has any such claim been made before? Has it been investigated? Funny coïncidence, either way. Skomakarn (talk) 02:10, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
