Hungarian város is from vár, but it's pretty sure that the Iranian language it borrows from is not Persian. This looks like some of those "Wunderwörter" Indo-Iranian borrowings in Uralic, which can be sporadically found. If someone knows the exact source, or Iranian etymon for comparison, it would be worth mentioning it. --Ivan Štambuk 23:53, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

From Indo-Iranian In Uralic? Through Urartu? The uſer hight Bogorm converſation 20:32, 17 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ivan, why are you so sure that the Indo-Iranian language is Persian? There were at least two Indo-Iranian peoples which left the Indo-Iranian homeland and betook themselves towards Europe - Proto-Bulgarians and Alans, both of them North-East Iranian (whereas Persian is West Iranian). So, the Persian claim is bold, but how can it be verified? The uſer hight Bogorm converſation 20:20, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Read more carefully, I've said that it's pretty sure that it's not Persian. It's Iranian language alright, but the exact source is apparently untraceable. --Ivan Štambuk 17:54, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
