English[edit]

Noun[edit]

Sense: language with the number of morphemes per word close to one[edit]

Synonyms[edit]
  • isolating language
Hypernyms[edit]
Instances[edit]
Various[edit]

Notes[edit]

  • Wikidata ranks isolating language as a subclass of analytic language, unsourced. By contrast, Britannica says an isolating language tends to be analytic, not a strict hyponymy. The hyponymy hypothesis seems plausible given the definitions, and English would be analytic but not isolating language, upon narrow reading of the terms.
