In addition to permanently recorded media as described in WT:ATTEST, online sources may also contribute to the three- or one-citation criterion.[1]
Note that WT:Sources can not override WT:CFI; in particular, sources deemed acceptable by WT:CFI (such as Usenet) may not be voted on in this forum.
Voting procedure[edit]
To propose a change to the list of online sources, replace "Name of the source" with the name of the source in the above text field, click on the blue button labeled "Start a new vote" and follow the instructions there. This starts a new source vote.
Source votes (here simply called votes) are similar to regular votes but they also differ in a couple of key aspects. Most importantly, they must not be added to Wiktionary:Votes/Active nor Wiktionary:Votes/Timeline.
Votes shall be handled as follows:
- Every vote concerns one source.
- Every vote last for two weeks.
- Voting eligibility is described in Wiktionary:Voting policy#Voting eligibility.
- Every vote is created using the provided template, Template:vote-source. This is done automatically if the blue button above is clicked. The mandatory fields have to be filled out.
- Every vote is added to the Votes field of the source it concerns, ordered from the oldest to the newest.
- The result of a vote depends on the ratio r = (#supports/(#supports+#opposes)). If this ratio is 0 ≤ r < 1/2, the vote failed. If this ratio is 1/2 ≤ r < 2/3, the vote resulted is no consensus. If this ratio is 2/3 ≤ r ≤ 1, the vote passed.
- If a vote passes, the fields in the list of discussed online sources corresponding to that source are filled out according to the mandatory fields in the vote.
- If, for a given source, no vote has passed yet, the Status field is filled out according to the result of the last vote corresponding to that source.
- In some rare cases, the same website corresponds to multiple sources in the list of discussed online sources. This is done if different parts of the same website should be treated differently. For instance, editors may want to give the articles of a news website a different weight than the comments. In such cases, the Source field is named "<Website> - articles" and "<Website> - user comments" or similar.
