Etymology[edit]

Attested as Völckerdorp in 1904. Compound of Völcker (a surname) and dorp (village, settlement). Named after the initiator of the land reclamation project which created the land the settlement is located on, H. G. J. Völcker van Soelen en Alderhagen (1840-1908).
