Etymology[edit]

First attested as Vroelen in 1803-1820. Etymology unknown. Perhaps derived from a compound of vroon (lordly) and lo (light forest) or (somewhat less-likely) from a compound of dialectal vroe (cheerful, happy) and lo. Compare Fromberg, Vroendaal and Vroenhof.
