Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested as Waterop in 1866. Potentially derived from dorp (village). A proposed derivation from Old Dutch *apa (river, watercourse) is unlikely, as this would imply that the toponym is ancient.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈʋaː.tə.rɔp/
  • Hyphenation: Wa‧te‧rop

Proper noun[edit]

Waterop n

  1. A hamlet in Gulpen-Wittem, Limburg, Netherlands.
