Potentially attested as quarsingseli in 805, attested with certainty as vuesinga in the middle of the 12th century. Probably a compound of Old Dutch Wesso (“a personal name”) or Hwatso (“a personal name”) with collectivising suffix -ing- and seli (“hall house”).
