Slovene vs. Slovenian[edit]
Slovene vs. Slovenian issue: SIL, UN, EU and WP favor "Slovenian" for various reasons, but there are already a number of entries here which use either header, and some editors regularly change "Slovenian" to "Slovene". --Ivan Štambuk 18:26, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
We try to use only Slovene as a header here, for consistency. Both names (Slovene and Slovenian) are legitimate in English, but we try to use only Slovene so that all headers and categories are the same. On Wikipedia, they have a policy that accepts both spellings, but they do not have to worry about the same problems that we do. --EncycloPetey 05:57, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Which in my humble opinion is the wrong decision. Going against WP and SIL requires to establish more kludges in e.g. automatic checkers which use the authoritative SIL data. Slovenian/Slovene is by far also not the only problem West Frisian/Western Frisian and about 20 other names clash also. But hey, this is a wikimedia project. Need for update[edit]
All the current Slovene templates for pronunciation and inflection are outdated and missing some key features. Template {{sl-IPA}} is only phoneme-based and does not take into account even the most basic allophones and all predictable regional changes have to be also inserted manually. I am thinking maybe a template similar to {{zh-pron}} could be made that would account for all the differences. The inflection templates have support only for non-tonal Slovene, while all the rest of Wiktionary uses tonal Slovene. This issue needs to be resolved as the current state is probably very confusing to the users.
There are detailed articles regarding the pronunciation, declension and conjugation on Wikipedia, it just has to be decided what to include and what not. Therefore, most other Wiktionary appendices about Slovene have to be updated, including Wiktionary:about Slovene. Also, it would be great to add a template to warn the users that non-tonal accent is used for the entries where tone is unknown.Garygo golob (talk) 10:09, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
Use of the schwa ?[edit]
User:Rua has introduced in his revision as of 18 h 54, 8 August 2019 the following rule : « Additionally, the symbol ⟨ə⟩ is used to indicate the schwa, and ⟨ł⟩ is used to indicate where the letter ⟨l⟩ is written but /ʋ/ is pronounced. » - https://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=Wiktionary%3AAbout_Slovene&diff=prev&oldid=53845314 Actually that user seem to have little knowledge of the language. Is it backed by Slovene linguists ?
