Wonderfool archiving tool[edit]

Hmmm, the Wonderfool archiving tool doesn't seem to be working on this subpage. — SMUconlaw (talk) 19:16, 12 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, we just have to wait for someone more versed in JS to update it. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 19:27, 12 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Erutuon, any chance you know how to update "MediaWiki:Gadget-aWa.js" so that it works on the subpages "Wiktionary:Requests for verification/English" and "Wiktionary:Requests for verification/Non-English"? — SMUconlaw (talk) 09:54, 14 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
It should probably accept all subpages of the requests pages (in addition to the requests pages themselves). Are there any cases where archiving is unwanted? Even with the 'resolved' archives (contrast the 'unresolved' archives where archiving is good), archiving to talk pages makes discussions findable. - -sche (discuss) 18:01, 14 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'm a JavaScript newbie, but maybe the condition if ((wgPageName === "Wiktionary:Requests_for_verification") || /^Wiktionary:Requests_for_verification_archive\//.test(wgPageName)) can be changed to if (/^Wiktionary:Requests_for_verification/.test(wgPageName)). That should allow the aWa gadget to be used on any pagename beginning with Wiktionary:Requests_for_verification. — Eru·tuon 18:28, 14 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Try editing it? — SMUconlaw (talk) 22:02, 14 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
I can't edit it. Only admins can edit pages in the MediaWiki namespace, and I'm not an admin. — Eru·tuon 22:10, 14 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
I added your code, but to no effect — do we have to wait? (Also, I wish the templateeditor user group could edit MediaWiki pages.) —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 23:48, 14 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
:'( How do we change user rights? — SMUconlaw (talk) 07:17, 15 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
1. This isn't a matter of changing user rights; he has the relevant user rights, but they don't apply to that namespace. We would have to get consensus and then file a Phabricator report, which seems like too much effort for a fairly trivial issue. 2. It doesn't matter, because any admin can just make the changes a non-admin describes, but in this case, the changes seem not to have worked. I have asked Dixtosa for help, since he's a JS whiz, and hopefully he'll respond soon. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 08:23, 15 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I see. Thanks! — SMUconlaw (talk) 08:59, 15 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
For future reference, Erutuon's code did actually fix it.--Dixtosa (talk) 16:11, 15 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, it's working fine. What caused the fix not to work earlier? — SMUconlaw (talk) 17:21, 15 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
My guess: the old version was still in the browser cache when it was tried. Chuck Entz (talk) 01:47, 16 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Old English and Middle English[edit]

Would OE and ME entries be discussed on this page, or on the other page? Equinox 14:39, 29 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Don't we treat them as foreign languages? ME and OE terms appear on FWOTD, not WOTD. — SMUconlaw (talk) 15:18, 29 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'd treat them as foreign languages, maybe allowing for occasional exceptions like words labeled Middle English but which the RFV nominator suspects aren't attested until Early Modern English. —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 15:34, 29 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Striking out headings[edit]

Hi, @Kiwima. Could you remember to strike out headings once you've either passed or failed a request? It makes it easier to identify discussions for archiving after seven days. Thanks. — SGconlaw (talk) 16:36, 24 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Category:en:Named roads[edit]

I have noticed that CFI says "roads and streets ... may only be attested through figurative use", but many of the roads in Category:en:Named roads do not appear to have any figurative senses or citations. Am I missing something here? If not, would it be appropriate to somehow list these all at RFV or would WT:RFDE be more appropriate? - excarnateSojourner (talk | contrib) 19:00, 4 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

@ExcarnateSojourner: if an entry contains no figurative sense, list it at RFD. If it has one or more unattested figurative senses, list it at RFV. — Sgconlaw (talk) 05:29, 5 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Cool, thanks. - excarnateSojourner (talk | contrib) 06:04, 5 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Page slow to load/edit[edit]

Should this page be split into smaller sections? As well as taking what seems like an age to load (we are so impatient nowadays!), it is hardly editable for me to add a new topic. I type a character and it takes about five seconds to respond. Instead, I can compose the message offline and then paste it in, but even so ... Mihia (talk) 21:10, 2 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
