English[edit]

Etymology 1[edit]

From abbreviation of Xbox One for quicker use on Twitter.[1]

Noun[edit]

Xbone (plural Xbones)

  1. (video games, slang) Abbreviation of Xbox One.
  2. (video games, slang) Synonym of Xbox

Etymology 2[edit]

From a blend of Xbox +‎ bone, variously from the idea that Microsoft was "boning" their customers with their planned digital rights management and game licensing policies for the Xbox One,[2] or from the idea that Microsoft was "throwing a bone to" gamers by changing their controversial digital rights management and game licensing policies for the Xbox One.[3][4] May also have been coined from Microsoft's press conference during E3 2013, during which Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft Studios at the time, partially obscures the Xbox One wordmark placed behind him.[5][6]
