From Old High German *zēwa, alternative form of zēha, from Proto-Germanic *taihwǭ. Most closely related with Alemannic German Zeewe, Middle Low German têwe. Also cognate with German Zeh, Zehe, Dutch teen, English toe, Danish tå, Icelandic tá.
