Etymology[edit]
From Arabic آخِر (ʔāḵir) with irregular gemination, perhaps after ewwel (“first”).
Pronunciation[edit]
Adjective[edit]
aħħar
- last
- X’tagħmel jekk din tkun l-aħħar ġurnata ta’ ħajtek?
- What would you do if this were the last day of your life?
Usage notes[edit]
- The adjective is prepositioned, as above, and remains invariable. When nominalised it usually takes a form of wieħed after it: Din hija l-aħħar waħda. (“This is the last one.”)
