Possibly from Sanskrit परिपुष्ट (paripuṣṭa, nourished), from परिपुष् (paripuṣ, nourish), with semantic shift over time. Compare Old Javanese paripoṣita (do something with great care and assiduity). Also possibly from Sanskrit परिप्लुष्ट (paripluṣṭa, burned).
