Etymology[edit]

Possibly from Proto-Turkic *ïŋïra- (to neigh; to bellow, purr). Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (ïŋra-), Turkmen yňranmak (to scream), Chuvash ӗнер (ĕner, to cry (of children)), Yakut иҥэрсий (iñersiy, to neigh quietly), Kazakh ыңырану (yñyranu, to moan).
