Etymology[edit]

Probably from Albanian raki; itself from Turkish raki, from Arabic عَرَقِيّ (ʕaraqiyy, of liquor), from عَرَق (ʕaraq, arrack, arak, literally condensate), which refers to an ouzo-like liqueur made of Raisins. Compare Romanian rachiu.
